Qualifications

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the provision of psychiatric evaluations and medication monitoring under the supervision of the Senior Lead Nurse Practitioner and the administrative supervisor of the Medical Director.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conducts psychiatric evaluations and follow-up medication monitoring.
  • Prescribe medication in compliance with scope of practice, standards of care, and establishing prescribing protocols.
  • Makes diagnoses in the appropriate terminology set forth in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual when appropriate.
  • Recommends referral to appropriate inpatient or to other treatment resources if additional services are needed by clients that are beyond the scope of the Center’s services.
  • Reviews and signs, if in agreement with, treatment plans to initiate, continue or discontinue services.
  • Consults actively with Center staff regarding treatment of clients in the Center’s care.
  • Provides back-up consultations to Center On-Call staff providing emergency services.
  • Maintains licensure, D.E.A. certification and other qualifying credentials necessary to provide services under Federal and State guidelines.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities as evidenced by participation in the identification and resolution of problems identified by quality assurance activities, such as qualitative and quantitative peer review, direct observation and other quality assurance monitors in place.
  • Assists in the promulgation of medical/psychiatric policies and procedures and consults with the medical staff and designated administrative staff members regarding the quality of medical services.
  • Follows protocol for approval and reimbursement of CEUs and attendance at CEU training conferences.
  • Follows all guidelines outlined in the CAREY Policies and Procedures Manual including Corporate Compliance Policies.
  • Is expected to have regular and predictable attendance and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Follows Center’s policies for requesting and the use of PTO for planned and unplanned absences, as it relates to paid and unpaid time off.
  • The prescriber will maintain the daily productivity target of 12 patients per day (excluding admin time and PTO).
  • The prescriber will complete all required patient care documentation within 24 business hours of the patient contact appointment, at a minimum of 90% efficiency.
  • The prescriber will order all required and necessary labs and EKGs as outlined by the industry standards of care and scope of practice and will sign off on those labs within 24 business hours. (examples include but may not be limited to: typical and atypical antipsychotics, Lithium, Depakote, Tegretol, Clozaril, and psycho stimulant medication).
  • The prescriber will complete an AIMs assessment of patients who are prescribed typical and atypical antipsychotic medications at a minimum of once every 6 months in compliance with industry standards of care and scope of practice.
  • The prescriber will complete all consent form documentation for initiated and discontinued medications in compliance with industry standards of care.
  • Position Requirements

    Licensure as a Registered Nurse, and Board Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the State of Tennessee, with all related credentials as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, or a Family Nurse Practitioner in the process of obtaining psychiatric board certification.

    For non-Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, continuation of employment will be contingent upon becoming Board Certified as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
