General Summary
The Machine Coating Painter 2nd Shift performs painter duties associated with preparing and coating/lining pipes and components using various coating and lining applications for shipment. Maintains technical equipment, troubleshoots issues, and maintains a high first‑pass quality rating.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience: High school diploma or GED plus a minimum of three years of related industrial painting experience. Proficiency with technical machinery.

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, pipe drawings, specification boundary sheets, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; present information clearly to supervisors and employees.

Ability to attain multiple company certifications and certifications for g and coating applicator, AP spray gun, Kamatsu, and manlift operations.
Equipment/Materials/Tools UsedPolyurethane machine, paint gun, sandblaster, forklift, epoxy machine, computer desktop, calculator, tape measure, Kamatsu, manlift.
Physical/Environmental RequirementsThe job requires regular standing, walking, reaching, and handling; occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Must regularly lift up to 10 lbs, frequently lift 25 lbs, and occasionally lift 50 lbs. Vision: distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. Exposure to moving parts, wet or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, isocyanates, outside weather, loud noise, and both indoor and outdoor work.
EssentialFunctions/Responsibilities
- Follow all safety policies and PPE rules (Confined Space Entry, LOTO, Fall Protection) and report safety incidents.
- Coordinate priorities for customer orders with department management.
- Read customer specifications and pipe drawings to determine coating type, thickness, and other specifications.
- Ensure pipe is positioned correctly on the paint line, operate polyurethane and epoxy machines, and perform painting operations per specifications.
- Set up paint gun, paint pump, and paint tote; complete required steps.
- Complete a run chart for every pipe.
- Monitors DFT readings per pipe.
- Operate polyurethane pump and small epoxy sprayer.
- Complete Paint Start‑Up and Paint Shutdown Checklists daily.
- Adjust paint lap according to procedure.
- Maintain paint booth, replace plastic, and change out paint totes as needed.
- Adjust and monitor preheaters to preheat pipe to appropriate temperature.
- Apply Rust Preventative Material to meet customer specification.
- Maintain and troubleshoot polyurethane machine and AP Spray Gun.
- Understand and verify the complete delivery system for the Poly Coat process.
- Certify as g & Coating Applicator, fully assemble AP Spray Gun, and certify on all machine and manual coating applications.
- Operate Kamatsu to clean paint pad and certify as Manlift operator.
- Maintain housekeeping for the painting area and assist with department area housekeeping.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Work EnvironmentWork occurs in both indoor and outdoor settings, exposing employees to mechanical parts, wet conditions, fumes, airborne particles, isocyanates, and loud noise. The environment involves significant standing, bending, climbing, crawling, and working over the head.
