Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on HR Manager to serve as the primary HR leader for a manufacturing site. This is a highly visible, operational HR role supporting an hourly workforce across multiple shifts. The HR Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day HR function onsite, partnering closely with employees and plant leadership while overseeing employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, performance management, compliance, benefits, payroll/timekeeping, and other HR operations.

This is a lean HR environment, supported by an HR assistant, so the successful candidate must be comfortable rolling up their sleeves, working independently, solving problems, and improving processes without relying on a large HR team.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary onsite HR resource and trusted partner to plant leadership and employees.
  • Manage day-to-day HR operations for a manufacturing workforce across multiple shifts.
  • Partner with managers and employees on employee relations matters, including investigations, attendance, performance issues, corrective action, and terminations.
  • Coach managers on HR policies, performance management, employee relations, and appropriate documentation.
  • Lead recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and employee retention initiatives.
  • Oversee HR processes related to payroll, timekeeping, attendance, benefits, leave, and employee records.
  • Support benefits administration and serve as a resource to employees regarding HR programs and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and Illinois employment laws and regulations.
  • Partner on workers' compensation, safety, and other workplace compliance matters.
  • Maintain accurate HR records and HRIS data and provide HR reporting/metrics to leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, policies, and procedures and independently drive solutions.
  • Support employee engagement, training, development, and retention initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership while maintaining a strong presence on the plant floor.
  • Support the needs of a three-shift operation and maintain flexibility in work hours based on business needs.
  • Supervise and work closely with the HR assistant.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably within a manufacturing, industrial, warehouse, or other hourly workforce environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with employee relations, investigations, corrective action, performance management, and terminations.
  • Experience managing broad HR operations including recruiting, onboarding, benefits, leave, payroll/timekeeping, and compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and Illinois employment laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of a site HR function.
  • Comfortable operating in a lean HR environment and balancing strategic partnership with hands-on execution.
  • Strong communication, coaching, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees and leaders at all levels.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  • HRIS experience required; experience with HR metrics/reporting preferred.
