Job Title

CNC Machinist (2nd Shift)

Responsibilities
  • Become familiar and obtain knowledge of blueprints, Engineering Orders (E.O.), Statistical Process Controls (SPCs), and Planning Change Requests (PCR).
  • Follow instructions from planning, setup sheets, work instructions, shop charts, and verbal instructions.
  • Become familiar with at least one machine or machine control and the parts produced on that machine.
  • Control CNC Programs at the machine following all procedures/protocols.
  • Setup, with full to moderate assistance, the operations required to produce a quality part.
  • Maintain quality standards focusing on learning how to reduce the number of defects due to workmanship.
  • Achieve basic working knowledge of various precision measuring tools used within the department.
  • Understand what to check and when to use the precision measuring instruments to ensure a quality part is produced.
  • Ensure all company‑owned precision measuring equipment is calibrated per due date.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment per checklist at machine.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices to promote a safe, well‑organized work area.
  • Comply with all PPE requirements, including safety glasses, steel‑toed shoes, ear plugs, hard hats, face shields, and proper hand protection.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous waste and chemicals properly, following supervisor instructions and Safety Data Sheets.
  • Apply basic shop math (SAE and Metric dimensioning).
  • Know the different types of tools and tool holders and the tool‑setting procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with trainer and co‑workers and use time wisely.
  • Work overtime as required to meet customer schedule.
  • Learn and adhere to company policies and procedures defined in the company handbook.
Level II Requirements
  • Perform all Level I tasks with minimal assistance.
  • Set up and perform requirements of new or difficult product families with moderate to minimal assistance.
  • Communicate with supervisor/lead and support departments.
  • Maintain time‑management skills and quality throughout production using precision measuring equipment.
  • Reduce scrap due to workmanship.
  • Be proficient on one machine with minimal assistance; have working knowledge of at least two other machines.
  • Train new employees on Level I tasks.
  • Work with tooling, quality, engineering, scheduling, and other departments as needed.
  • Document Planning Change Requests, Program Prove‑out sheets, and RCCA documents.
  • Maintain shop average efficiencies and meet review expectations.
Level III Requirements
  • Perform all Level II tasks with minimal assistance.
  • Train entry‑level and Level I to Level II operators.
  • Be proficient at three or more machines and able to run the more complicated work.
  • Lead or assist new projects.
  • Run FAI/Tool proof jobs with minimal assistance.
  • Assist CNC programmers to optimize programs.
  • Demonstrate basic leadership skills and work ethics.
  • Improve quality or productivity by reviewing setup documents and processes.
  • Plan next setups and maintain setup book, fixtures, cutters, and tooling.
Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Typically 5 to 10 years of experience;
    Level I usually 5 years, Level III 5–10 years.
  • Completion of relevant training (Blueprint, math, SPC, etc.).
