Job Summary

The Surgical Dental Assistant supports oral surgeons and dentists during surgical dental procedures by preparing patients, instruments, and the operatory, ensuring a sterile environment, and providing high-quality chairside assistance. This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and a calm, professional demeanor when working with patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the oral surgeon/dentist during surgical procedures such as extractions, implants, bone grafting, and periodontal surgery
• Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to infection control standards
• Set up and break down surgical operatories before and after procedures
• Prepare patients for surgery, including taking vitals, reviewing medical histories, and explaining post-operative instructions
• Maintain suction, retract tissues, and pass instruments during procedures
• Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) as required
• Monitor patient comfort and safety during procedures
• Manage surgical materials, medications, and supplies
• Assist with post-operative care and patient education
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
• Follow OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control protocols at all times

Requirements

• Must maintain certification and/or license renewals as required by the state.
• Must excel in forward thinking to anticipate the needs of the patient and our dental team.
• May be required to travel between office locations. Must be insurable by the company’s insurance.
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned by management.
• Must be CPR Certified.
