Position Summary

The Director of Development, Major Gifts manages relationships with major gift donors and leads coordinated solicitations to support the organization’s priorities, including Annual Giving, Principal Gifts, Gold Pass, Alumni Engagement, Direct Mail, and general gift processing.

Roles & Responsibilities

Athlete Experience

  • Secure major gift support for athletes’ travel, elite training, coaching, sports science, and nutrition.
  • Collaborate with current and alumni athletes in fundraising and donor hospitality events.
  • Represent U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes, programs, and community with authenticity, professionalism, and passion.

Operational Excellence

  • Build new donor relationships while stewarding and strengthening existing ones.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 75+ major gift donors and prospects.
  • Identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospective donors.
  • Establish short‑term and long‑term fundraising objectives (one‑year, five‑year, longer‑range).
  • Plan and execute fundraising events that communicate the organization’s mission and impact.
  • Track donor interactions, pledges, and gifts in Salesforce (NPSP).
  • Develop customized donor solicitation and stewardship strategies.
  • Create compelling major gift proposals and presentation materials.

Financial Performance

  • Expand philanthropic support and consistently achieve or exceed fundraising goals.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute major donor and prospect solicitations.
  • Assist in budgeting for short‑ and long‑term major gift strategies.
  • Manage assigned travel and program budgets responsibly.

Competencies & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum five years experience in fundraising, development, sales, or nonprofit advancement.
  • Proven record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals and securing major gifts.
  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies, donor engagement, and philanthropic best practices.
  • At least five years cultivating major donors or business clients.
  • Demonstrated success motivating volunteers, donors, and stakeholders.
  • Passion for skiing and snowboarding, able to speak knowledgeably.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team collaboration.
  • High adaptability in fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Self‑motivated, innovative, proactive, goal‑oriented, enthusiastic.

Essential Functions

This role operates in a professional office environment, requires effective communication via common telecommunications and computer equipment, reading and organizing documents, and the ability to sit, stand and walk during extended periods. Work may be required on weekends, nights, holidays, and on‑call basis.
