This position supervises the operation of laboratory services in assigned areas by supervising personnel and overseeing day-to-day workflow.

Minimum Qualifications

West Virginia Labs Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (Medical Laboratory Science) or related field.
  • WV Licensure as a Laboratory Technologist within 90 days of hire.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Maryland Labs Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (Medical Laboratory Science) or related field.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
Experience
  • Four (4) years experience as a Medical Technologist.
  • OR:
    Associate’s degree in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Technology or related field; WV Licensure as a Laboratory Technician within 90 days of hire;
    Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or AMT;
    Four (4) years experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
  • OR:
    Bachelors degree in Histotechnology;
    Certified by ASCP or equivalent agency as a Histotechnologist (HTL);
    Licensed in WV as a Laboratory Technician within 90 days of employment if performing specimen grossing;
    Four (4) years experience as a Histotechnologist.
  • OR:
    Bachelors or Masters degree from accredited cytotechnologist program;
    Certified by ASCP or equivalent as a Cytotechnologist;
    Licensed by WV within 30 days of employment;
    Three (3) years experience as a Cytotechnologist.

    Three (3) years experience as a Cytotechnologist.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Managers in the supervision of all lab areas to assure appropriate personnel coverage. Assist with ensuring adequate staffing and appropriate staff in support of the hospital's mission of patient care.
  • Participates in the orientation of new staff. Provides input for staff's annual performance appraisals, disciplinary actions and terminations, based on documented performance within time frames established by the institution.
  • Coordinates and ensures all Reference Laboratory specimens are sent to appropriate reference laboratory and results are received within specified time frame.
  • In conjunction with LIS personnel and technical staff coordinates all computer downtime activities in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Operates and supervises the operation of laboratory equipment consistent with standard operating procedure and promptly prepares patient specimens in accordance with standard operating policies.
  • Solicits and provides input for the development and/or revision of standard operating procedures and department policies.
  • Maintains working knowledge of current hospital and lab administrative and safety policies/ procedures as well as the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) if applicable, and applies these policies consistently and seeks management guidance when needed.
  • Responds, researches, and answers to customer inquiries and performs as variety of duties related to customer service in accordance with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures. Monitors customer service activities and day-to-day Specimen Processing and/or Phlebotomy activities to identify potential problems and provide possible solutions.
