MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Imaging Program.
- Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVT) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 2 years of hire.
- Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
- Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVT) through ARDMS OR Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through CCI.
- Perform advanced non‑invasive imaging procedures for Vascular Laboratories.
- Perform proper billing of procedures and prioritize patient scheduling.
- Coordinate and prioritize patient scheduling to insure procedure completion in a timely fashion.
- Prior to testing, obtain information for specific procedures, answer pertinent questions to patients concerning procedures and remain courteous to patients and their families 100% of the time.
- Perform all non‑invasive imaging procedures within established guidelines and time frames.
- Notify appropriate medical staff if there are significant abnormal findings.
- Document procedure performed within patient chart to inform the physician that the test has been completed.
- Calculate and measure vascular structures from procedure data to aid the physician in interpreting results and achieving a diagnosis.
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of the equipment, procedure rooms and work areas of the Vascular Laboratories.
- Complete accurate documentation through EPIC to ensure proper billing.
- Participate in education and in‑service opportunities to maintain and enhance knowledge.
- Provide preliminary report on study performed in a timely manner and review preliminary report with physician.
- Follow and implement Vascular protocols and policies.
- Participate in the training of vascular ultrasound techniques and procedures.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
- Hearing (aid permitted) – must be able to function without use of lip reading.
- Visual acuity (corrected) – keen for both distant and near objects/individuals (e.g., ability to read small print).

The Vascular Sonographer Clinical Ladder is a system‑wide clinical advancement program to enhance professional development, provide a reward system for quality clinical performance, promote quality imaging care, and improve job satisfaction for cardiac sonographers. To apply for the next level, the Vascular Sonographer must meet the requirements of their current level and the required years of experience, degree, and certification to apply for the next level.
LEVEL1
- No experience required.
- All Vascular Sonographers with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level one.
- Meets requirements for previous level.
- Two years of sonographer experience.
- Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, plus additional skill sets.
- Meets requirements for previous levels.
- One continuing education pathway.
- Four years of sonographer experience.
- Compliant in four leadership/supervisory skills.
- Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus three additional skill sets.
- Meets requirements for previous levels.
- One continuing education pathway.
- Five years of sonographer experience.
- Compliant in five leadership/supervisory skills.
- Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, 2, and 3 plus four additional skill sets.
