Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position caring for complex cardiac patients in an acute care hospital setting, requiring a WV or compact RN license and ACLS certification.

• Work on a 43-bed Cardiac Telemetry unit within an acute care hospital
• Patient population includes post-heart caths, pacemakers, CHF, COPD, arrhythmias, and medical management or pre-CABG consults
• Average patient ratios are 1:5, which can flex up to 1:6
• RN assigned 12-hour shifts with a rotating every other weekend requirement
• Night shifts are available, with day and night self-scheduling and block schedule options if unit needs permit
• Travelers participate in the float rotation and may be floated to other units appropriate to their skillset
• Utilizes Epic EMR; basic experience is required
• RN will titrate Heparin drips and may occasionally titrate Lasix or Bumex
• RNs are expected to manage admissions, discharges, and patient care independently, with support available as needed
• Teamwork is a core value, and team members often assist one another in this fast-paced environment
• Scrub color is royal blue; jackets must be designated scrub jackets with no hoodies or sweatshirts allowed
• Orientation consists of one day computer training and one day shadowing with a preceptor
• Travelers are worked into holiday coverage as needed depending on unit requirements
• Travelers must reside at least 50 miles away from the facility to be eligible for this position (no local travelers allowed)
• Previous employees must have a two-year break from any WVU Medicine location before returning as a traveler and may not work longer than one year cumulatively with WVU without a two-year break in service
• First-time travelers and new grads are welcome, and the unit is known for being supportive and teaching oriented

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA required
• Minimum of 2 years of recent relevant RN experience required
• Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips and perform EKGs
• Experience caring for cardiac telemetry patients required
• COVID-19 vaccination required unless an approved medical or religious exemption is provided
• Driver’s license must be provided and kept up to date
