Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position requiring a WV or compact RN license, with advanced certifications and experience in high-acuity ER care.
Responsibilities- Work in a 44-bed Emergency Department with 3 trauma bays and designated behavioral health rooms in an acute care setting
- Average patient volume is approximately 135 per day, with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4 or 1:5 based on acuity
- Night shifts from 7p-7a with weekend coverage as scheduled
- Department handles a range of cases, including belly pain, chest pain, altered mental status, and high behavioral health volume
- Uses Epic for charting; previous Epic experience is preferred
- No floating outside of the Emergency Department required
- Self-scheduling is being implemented for increased flexibility
- Respiratory therapy staff available for ABGs and vent management; CT, stat lab, and diagnostic services located within the department
- Responsibilities include team-based care, stocking rooms, and managing both medical and behavioral emergencies
- Support team includes 24/7 charge nurses, PCTs, paramedics, and sitters
- Orientation consists of 2-3 department-specific shifts
- Black scrubs are required; scrub jackets must be actual scrub jackets, with no hoodies or sweatshirts allowed
- Holiday shifts may be required if staffing is low
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
- Current certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA) or ENPC, NIHSS, and TNCC
- Knowledge of ESI triage methodology required
- Must submit an unexpired driver's license for consideration
- Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility; local travelers are not accepted
- Candidates who have worked at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break before reapplying as a traveler
- Travelers may not work within WVU facilities for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
