Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring a WV or compact RN license and proficiency with Epic EMR.
Responsibilities- Work in a 44-bed Emergency Room with 3 trauma bays and specialized behavioral health and negative airflow rooms
- Acute care setting with average daily volumes around 135 patients
- Patient ratios vary from 1:4 to 1:5 depending on acuity across unit pods
- Common cases include abdominal pain, chest pain, altered mental status, and behavioral health
- Specialized equipment and procedures include EKGs, certified cath lab, ventilators, and rapid cardiac evaluation
- Epic EMR is used in the department and prior experience is required
- Shifts are 12 hours, 2p-2a, with every other weekend as scheduled
- No floating outside of the Emergency Department is required
- Behavioral health patients and psych rooms are part of the unit; behavioral rooms are video monitored with on-site security
- Must be able to work as part of a collaborative team, including PAs, charge nurses, PCTs, and unit secretaries
- Department has PCTs who can perform phlebotomy and Foley insertion and removal
- Scrub color is black; scrub jackets must be scrub style—no hoodies or sweatshirts
- Unit-specific orientation is provided over 2-3 shifts
- No call or standby requirements for travelers
- Holiday coverage required only if no permanent staff are available
- Local travelers are not accepted; must reside outside the specified radius
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 2 years Emergency Department RN experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS (or ENPC), TNCC, and NIHSS certifications are required
- Familiarity with ESI triage and emergency care for both low and high acuity patients
- Experience with Epic EMR required
- Must not have worked within any WVU Medicine facility in the past 2 years
