Job Summary

Position:
Community Support Worker (Classification: Community Support Worker, Grid level: 10). Salary will be adjusted to the collective agreement wage range of $27.53‑$31.57 effective April 2026 with retroactive pay back to April 1, 2026. The position requires union membership and is open to all qualified applicants.

Position

Purpose

A Support Worker creates a professional and therapeutic environment, providing quality support for vulnerable adults. The role contributes significantly to ICCS’s mission of providing shelter and care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the assessment, goal setting and program planning (Personal Service Plan) for clients, documenting, implementing, and providing input into program evaluation.
  • Assist with life‑skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care, and personal finance, and implement personal service plans.
  • Participate in client‑focused activities in accordance with care plans.
  • Help program participants achieve greater independence within the program space or their own supportive housing, teaching daily life, social, and behavior‑management skills; facilitate physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities.
  • Provide emotional support and feedback to residents and their families.
  • Identify community resources that meet clients’ needs, maintaining liaison with agencies, professionals, and government officials.
  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals and snacks, including special dietary needs, following safety and health standards and the menu plan.
  • Recognize, analyze and manage potential emergency situations, ensuring safety; report problems to the supervisor.
  • Administer first aid and medication as per established policy.
  • Assist with case management by identifying problems and reporting difficulties, providing input to counselors, and contributing to evaluation of residents’ progress.
  • Maintain reports such as statistics, logbooks, and daily activity records.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are upheld.
  • Assist with residence maintenance and housekeeping duties (laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, lawn care, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment and food services) as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications Education
  • Diploma in a related human/social service field.
Training and Experience
  • One (1) year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Required Licenses/Certificates
  • Standard First Aid with CPR‑C
  • FOODSAFE Level 1
  • Naloxone Administration
  • WHMIS 2015
  • Non‑Violent Crisis Prevention
  • Successful Criminal Record Review for vulnerable people
