Job DescriptionSummary
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutor works directly with students, either one-on-one or in small group sessions, aiming to foster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals.
Essential Functions
- Provides one-on-one and small group tutoring support.
- Offers subject‑specific content strategies tailored to different learning styles to help students understand key concepts.
- Assists students with the use of equipment and learning materials.
- Conducts “class visits” and helps publicize the College’s tutoring services.
- Maintains accurate records and completes necessary paperwork by deadlines.
- Assists with development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a related field or higher, consistent with department needs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the subject matter.
- Ability to explain concepts effectively and multitask with varying levels of students and subject material.
- Strong organizational, time‑management, communication, and customer service skills.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

- Ability to communicate with faculty about expectations, assignments, attendance, and work completed.
- Effective communication of study strategies to ensure academic success.
- Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
- Normal, professional office environment; adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
- Typically sits comfortably while performing duties and engages in repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type; may walk, stand, bend, carry light items, and travel to meetings and conferences away from the worksite.
Set‑Rate Non‑Bargaining Part‑Time Position: $18.03 per hour
