Job Summary
Langan is seeking a Civil Engineering Practice Lead for its growing national aviation practice. This role leads and expands the practice’s market reach, innovative solutions, and technical expertise. The aviation team provides civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineering for projects ranging from terminals to airport development programs across the United States. You will help shape the evolution of Langan’s aviation practice and achieve strategic business results in a multidisciplinary, collaborative, and dynamic environment as the practice grows.
Responsibilities- Lead and continue development of a progressive national aviation practice
- Build, maintain, and manage client relationships with the goal of securing aviation projects nationwide
- Serve as technical lead in the preparation of civil engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for landside and airside civil engineering activities (grading, drainage, utilities, pavements, aircraft movements and parking, landside roadways and parking, erosion and sediment control, and other infrastructure to support runways, taxiways, terminals, cargo facilities)
- Provide leadership, coaching, and supervision to engineering design staff to meet design objectives
- Assist with talent acquisition to grow the aviation practice
- Develop and implement business development strategies to capture airport projects, including federal and state-funded programs and developer-funded projects at both public and private airports
- Coordinate with other Langan disciplines to cross-sell aviation-related services to clients throughout North America
- 15+ years of progressive civil engineering experience
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration in at least one US state and ability to apply for PE in multiple states
- Design experience on FAA and airport authority aviation projects with reputable clients
- Experience leading and managing staff on aviation civil engineering projects
- Experience in business development with a history of project wins
- Ability to hire, manage, and motivate staff
- Experience leading all aspects of an aviation project: planning, master plans, grants/financing, detailed design, bid support, construction support, and close-out
- Knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars for airport design and construction
- Experience with Airport Layout Plans and FAA permitting
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency with MS Office, FAArfield, Avi Plan, and other relevant tools
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and managerial skills with the ability to engage teams in-person and remotely
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Reliable transportation for client meetings and site visits; valid driver’s license in good standing

The estimated salary range for this role is $125,000 - $190,000. Actual compensation varies based on experience, location, and credentials. Some roles may be eligible for overtime and discretionary bonuses based on performance and firm profitability. Paid time off varies by local law and seniority.
