Job DescriptionResponsible for creating cross‑sectional images of a patient’s body for diagnostic purposes, using magnetic resonance imaging equipment.
- Positions patient on the examining table and places the specified coil (receiver) such as head or knee coil, close to the area of interest, following protocols requested by the radiologist.
- Demonstrates use of a microphone that allows patient and technologist to communicate during the examination.
- Enters data such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into the aperture of the magnetic resonance imaging equipment (head or feet first) into the computer.
- Keys commands to specify scan sequences and adjust transmitters and receivers into the computer.
- Observes the patient through the window of the control room and on the closed‑circuit TV screen to monitor safety and comfort.
- Views images of the areas being scanned on the video display screen to ensure quality of pictures.
- Keys in data on the keyboard of the camera to photograph images.
- Alerts staff entering the magnet room to the danger of wearing or carrying metal around the magnet.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree in Radiology and/or a graduate of an accredited radiology program required.
- State RT license for ARRT candidates through the NJDEP, or MR certified through ARMRIT.
- BLS certification through AHA.
