This position, located in South Pasadena, California, focuses on actively stabilized gimbals used in laser communication, electro‑optical/infrared (EO/IR), seekers, radars, and satellite communication systems. The engineer will independently apply innovative approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems, initiate the planning of engineering projects, develop designs or modifications to meet project goals, and provide technical presentations to engineering staff. The role may also serve as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single‑component projects and lead a modest team of professional staff.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Support the operation of engineering systems and document any problems.
- Devises new approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems. Troubleshoot conflicting design or development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements.
- Provide documentation and make technical presentations as required.
- Represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single‑component projects.
- Provide direction to design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Typically requires a bachelor's, master's, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience: four or more years with a bachelor's degree or two or more years with a master's degree. Equivalent engineering experience may substitute for education.
- Requires in‑depth technical knowledge related to hardware development – mechanism design, precision optical design, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and structural analysis.
- Desirable experience with actively stabilized gimbals, EO/IR, lasers, seekers, radars, or satellite communication.
- Must possess a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theories; demonstrate broad application of those concepts and continually expand knowledge of related technical specialties.
- Must have ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task or project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
- Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and leading a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single‑component projects.
- Able to work extended hours as required.
- A Professional Engineering License and original work published in professional engineering journals are desirable.
