DescriptionThe NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at NASA Centers or affiliated research institutes. These one- to three‑year fellowships are competitive and designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will use geodetic tools and observations such as time‑variable gravity (e.g., GRACE and GRACE‑FO), GPS, and satellite radar and laser altimetry, combined with geophysical models, to improve understanding of mass transport processes (e.g., ice and glacier melt, sea‑level change). You will create new data products, implement novel data‑processing schemes, combine multiple geodetic data types, and conduct scientific analyses of the resulting products.
Your work will enable improved understanding of how the Earth responds to climate variations and aid in future projections.
You will collaborate closely with diverse scientists across JPL, especially in the Sea Level and Ice, Terrestrial Hydrology, and Earth Surface and Interior Groups.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement data‑processing pipelines for geodetic datasets.
- Combine multiple geodetic data types for joint inversion and scientific analysis.
- Produce scientific papers, presentations, and technical reports.
- Engage with a multidisciplinary research group to guide project direction.
Qualifications
- Recent PhD in Earth systems science, geodesy, engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background in scientific computing (Matlab, Python, or equivalent; C++ and/or FORTRAN also preferable).
- Experience with estimation theory, remote sensing principles, geodetic data, and handling large data sets.
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English.
