Description:
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers uniquely competitive fellowships to advanced scientists for one‑to‑three‑year research at NASA Centers, Headquarters, or affiliated institutes. This fellowship will focus on the storage and movement of water around the planet—satellite observations and numerical simulations—to better understand hydrologic variability in soils, snow, and groundwater. The research aims to improve predictions of future water availability, global water cycle dynamics, sea‑level change, and hydrologic extremes such as floods and droughts.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the observation and/or modeling of the terrestrial water cycle.
- Identify satellite observation phenomena that enhance understanding and simulation of the terrestrial water cycle and its climate relationships.
- Conduct observational work using GRACE, SMAP, GPM, or in‑situ stations.
- Perform model diagnostics and analysis using CLM, VIC, CLSM, LIS, GLDAS, and NLDAS frameworks.
- Develop models toward hyper‑resolution land surface representations, data assimilation, observations, or downscaling and improvement of forcing data.
