Geophysical Investigations of Habitability in Icy Ocean Worlds
Join to apply for the Geophysical Investigations of Habitability in Icy Ocean Worlds role at ORAU
.
Geophysical measurements can reveal the structures and thermal states of icy ocean worlds. The interior density, temperature, sound speed, and electrical conductivity characterize their habitability. Recent modeling and laboratory measurements enable more detailed views into the possible configurations of ocean worlds and predictions for future measurements. Further work is needed to predict the seismic, gravity structure, and magnetic properties of ocean worlds.
ResponsibilitiesWe seek diverse expertise relevant to these topics. The role will involve the application of applied theoretical and experimental aqueous chemistry, solid earth geophysics or geochemistry, and programming in Python and MATLAB to model the habitability of icy ocean worlds. The work will contribute to predictions used for planning observations and data synthesis for future missions such as Europa Clipper.
Qualifications- Strong background in solid earth geophysics, geochemistry, or applied theoretical/experimental aqueous chemistry.
- Proficiency in programming in Python and MATLAB.
- Commitment to open source (FAIR) practices and experience with Git Hub and Sphinx.
- Doctoral degree.
