Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) is a multi‑disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians on a mission to develop a fault‑tolerant quantum computer. We are hiring a Lab Software Engineer to join our growing software team. The role works closely with experimental and theoretical physics teams to enable their work characterizing, calibrating, and operating novel quantum devices.
The ideal candidate translates high‑level science requirements into software implementations (e.g. CDK scripts, telemetry systems, instrument servers, data visualizations) that are performant, scalable, and secure. This position emphasizes ensuring the availability and consistency of laboratory software infrastructure that supports experimental physics efforts at AWS Center for Quantum Computing.
AWS is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform. Our customers trust our robust suite of products and services to power their businesses. As part of the Utility Computing (UC) organization you support development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services. Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with customers requiring specialized security solutions.

- Partner with science teams to build intuitive and compact visualizations from observability data.
- Leverage infrastructure‑as‑code to continuously deploy improvements to laboratory software systems.
- Empower others to contribute to the codebase through mentorship and documentation.
The majority of time is spent on projects that extend the functional capabilities or performance of our internal research software stack. You work backwards from science staff needs within the experimental roadmap, translate requirements into design proposals, drive implementation, and coordinate with stakeholders for smooth rollout. Many high‑level experimental goals cut across teams, requiring collaboration with engineers and scientists.
About the TeamYou will be part of the software team at AWS Center for Quantum Computing, comprising scientists and software engineers building scalable software for quantum computing technologies.
