Maintenance Electrician II
Job SummaryPerforms skilled work at the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and systems. Serves as lead worker of a small crew. Responsible for performing emergency and the more complex electrical repair tasks.

- Acts as working leader in supervising the work of less skilled tradesmen engaged in electrical repair and maintenance.
- Lays out work for self and other members of the crew.
- Assigns, instructs, and inspects work of helpers, trainees, and lower level tradesmen in the proper practices and procedures of the trade.
- Wires buildings and makes additions to existing wires to include motor control wiring and 227-480 switch gear work.
- Installs and repairs electrical switches and relays.
- Installs and repairs fluorescent and general lighting fixtures and connections.
- Repairs and replaces motor control equipment.
- Assists as required in the installation and repair of Fire and Security Alarms.
- Assists as required in design, layout and time estimate for in-house electrical projects.
- Test faulty electrical equipment using standard instruments such as volt, ohm meter, amprobe and related test and repair devices.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education- High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required; and
- Technical or Vocational School Beyond High School appropriate training in electrical theory and practice preferred.
- Five (5) years progressive electrical experience required.
- Knowledge of procedures and regulations pertaining to hazardous materials.
- Experience with commercial wiring, motor control wiring, and 277-480 switch gear work.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Ability to follow oral and written instruction.
- Ability to work independently and make judgments and decisions within established parameters.
- Ability to safely use and operate Ariel lifts; training provided if necessary.
- Must be team oriented and demonstrate leadership skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Must provide own basic hand tools.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Ability to employ business technology tools (e.g. E-mail, AACPS Intranet, electronic benefits enrollment tool, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
- Upon hire, Electrician Journeyperson License issued by Maryland Board of Master Electricians required; and
- Upon hire, Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
- Proof of a good driving record required.
- Daily access to reliable transportation.
- Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
- Board Vehicle
- Two (2) additional years successful experience required.
- Mastery of Security and Fire Alarm Systems required.
- Two (2) years continuous successful experience in the position at the Lower Grade level.
- Mastery of all responsibilities and duties of the position.
- Evidence of completion of additional training that may be recommended by supervisor and/or participation in approved professional development programs or courses, approved in advance by the supervisor. Successful completion of a minimum of one professional development within the last two years is required. Successful completion of job specific professional developments identified on the job description, performance evaluations and/or the supervisor’s documented recommendation are required.
- Achievement of identified goals as they relate to the needs of the district and as established by the supervisor.
- Consistent maintenance of an effective and orderly work environment.
- Consistent compliance with general office procedures such as standards contained in the AACPS Employee Handbook; demonstration of discretion and excellent customer service; regular and punctual attendance; and building dress code, including wearing AACPS .
