POSITION SUMMARY:

The Swim Instructor, under the supervision of the Swim Director or assigned associate, is responsible for teaching swim lessons, ensuring safety, and engaging participants according to YMCA guidelines and levels.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ensure the safety of all swimmers during lessons and enforce pool rules.
• Report to work in uniform at least ten minutes before your shift to receive instructions.
• Conduct classes in accordance with YMCA Aquatic Program standards, adapting as needed for local conditions.
• Maintain program quality through adherence to standards and honest assessment of student abilities.
• Attend all scheduled classes; arrange substitutes and provide lesson plans if absent.
• Promote participation in the Y Swimming Lessons program.
• Assist with administrative tasks as needed.
• Prepare and restore equipment in the program area.
• Engage and assist participants when not actively teaching.
• Focus on delivering quality experiences and fostering engagement.
• Maintain a professional, clean, and safe environment at all times.
• Work effectively with diverse populations of all ages, genders, and orientations.
• Attend and participate in meetings.
• Incorporate YMCA values:
  Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, and adhere to the YCM Code of Conduct.
• Communicate the YMCA mission and objectives to the community.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
