The Bridge for Kids is a dynamic childcare center dedicated to providing exceptional early childhood education and care to children within our community who are part of the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault (DV/SA) movement. We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Part‑Time Childcare Teacher. The ideal candidate will have a genuine love for working with children, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be committed to creating a safe and enriching environment for our students.
Main ResponsibilitiesThe Early Childhood Educator will provide trauma‑informed services to youth ages 6 weeks to 12 years with developmental delays for survivors of domestic/sexual violence and homelessness.
Responsibilities include:
- Utilize a hands‑on, child‑led engaging environment to enhance and promote developmental skills in both the classroom and outdoor environments.
- Develop, implement, and monitor long‑term investigations to increase physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development for children exposed to trauma.
- Complete all required documentation daily to remain in compliance with agency, NAEYC, DFPS Childcare Licensing, Bright Beginnings & Collaborative for Children.
- Transport children as needed to field trips and other childcare‑related activities.
- Assist children with daily activities and age‑appropriate life skills.
- Ensure the environment meets NAEYC sanitation and safety requirements, using daily opening/closing and classroom checklists and completing daily chores.
- Maintain Bright Beginnings Stellar Center status by embracing the Reggio Emilia approach, modeling program philosophy, and ensuring compliance with staff training requirements.
- Maintain CACFP requirements, including daily meal counts, infant meal production forms, and meal preparation and serving.
- Ensure optimal staff‑to‑child ratio for accreditation and licensing compliance.
- Keep abreast of developmentally appropriate practices and childcare standards and implement them as appropriate.
Skills & Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Bilingual Spanish/English required, if applicable.
- Effective communication with diverse populations and people with mental disabilities; must produce written professional documentation using appropriate grammar.
- Ability to handle crisis situations and implement a plan of action with no supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to comprehend the impact of circumstances on children and provide appropriate support.
- Classroom control and discipline skills: setting rules, redirecting inappropriate behavior, reinforcing appropriate behavior.
- Program management proficiency: team planning, coordination, feedback, and instruction to teachers.
- Self‑management skills: setting professional limits separate from parents.
- Interpersonal competencies: understanding perspectives and non‑verbal messages.
- Facilitate age‑appropriate support groups.
- Identify professional boundaries and adhere to Social Work Code of Ethics.
Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
- Child Development Associate (CDA) certification (desired).
- Knowledge of the dynamics of sexual/domestic violence and its impact on survivors, including infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school‑ages.
- Knowledge of community and legal resources to assist survivors of domestic/sexual violence, homelessness, and related legislation.
- Must pass criminal background investigation check.
- Must pass drug screen.
- Must provide and maintain current TX Driver’s License.
- Must maintain a clean driving record and update it annually.
- Must provide and maintain current auto liability insurance.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, stretch, ascend/descend stairs, and lift/carry up to 40 lbs in an emergency shelter setting.
