Job Summary and Qualifications

The Lead Medical Technologist / for BSMC collects blood, performs tests, inputs patient information and test results into computer, performs computer functions as needed and assists in other duties as directed by laboratory supervisor / manager. The Lead Medical Technologist is proficient in one of the following disciplines:
Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Immunohematology (Blood Bank).

• Displays initiative to see processes through to completion and offers assistance without being asked.
• Maintains awareness of own limitations and seeks guidance from appropriate personnel as needed.
• Prioritizes activities of self based on demands for service.
• Remains alert to the detection of errors in own work and the work of others with appropriate corrective actions initiated.
• Demonstrates an understanding of patient rights, including those pertaining to confidentiality, informed decision-making, and privacy.
• Is aware of resources available for ethical concerns and makes appropriate referrals.
• Practices cost-efficiently.
• Performs technical skills proficiently in accordance with established standards, as evidenced by annual validation processes.
• Utilizes specialized knowledge and skill to perform job requirements.
• Demonstrates the ability to operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, including minor troubleshooting.
• Demonstrates ability to perform manual and automated test procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements, processing, handling, and rejection criteria.
• Maintains ability to report laboratory results, including special calculated, critical values and quality control in a timely manner.
• Knowledgeable of all laboratory forms, and logs.
