Stepan Company seeks a full-time Site Operations Manager in Pasadena, Texas to safely and reliably manage the 24/7 continuous operations of a batch specialty chemical production facility. This role will oversee the chemical manufacturing process of surfactants utilizing alkoxylation (EO/PO) and other chemical processes. This role will directly manage multiple Shift Team Leaders and indirectly oversee numerous Plant Production Operators.

Duties include:

ensure strict adherence to plant and corporate Environment, Health and Safety, and Security (EHS&S) policies; ensure production meets quality standards; effectively troubleshoot and problem solve surfactant manufacturing processing challenges; ensure that site production personnel are effectively trained in job functions and capable of meeting EHS&S expectations; drive operational improvements; plan capital investment priorities and new chemical asset commissioning; drive production reliability efforts;

assess and establish operational priorities where conflicts of resources occur; ensure that operating procedures are up to date, accurate, and correctly utilized; coordinate with maintenance to ensure that planned maintenance work is completed to schedule and within budget; create operational financial budgets; ensure that the organization responds promptly to customer service issues; promote and drive a zero tolerance mindset for quality deviations;

ensure adherence to Continuous Improvement/Operational Excellence practices and mindset; manage the performance of site production personnel; recruit and select team members for site production; define roles and expectations of production personnel; develop and mentor direct reports; provide leadership in emergency response and planning, including preparedness drills and incident command responsibilities by applying alkoxylation (EO/PO) chemistry knowledge; and manage chemical processing batch scheduling and campaign sequencing using DCS/PLC-based batch control systems.

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Production Management or related field, or any equivalent suitable combination of education, training, or experience as determined by a qualified evaluation service. Position also requires 10 years of progressive experience in production supervision or a related occupation in 24/7 continuous operations of a batch specialty chemical production environment to include
10 years of experience in each of these areas: communication of production requirements and high-level autonomous decision making regarding hazardous surfactant chemical production; managing subordinate operations personnel in a batch specialty chemical production environment; troubleshooting & problem solving of surfactant chemical production; recruiting, leading, developing and training teams of employees in chemical process operations, including safe handling and management of hazardous surfactant chemicals;

de-bottlenecking production and operation processes; troubleshooting and problem solving of surfactant manufacturing challenges; experience with cost control, budgeting and financial analysis for operating units; executing KPI’s within production operations; working with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) creation and implementation; directing manufacturing improvements utilizing ISO 9001 (including supporting CAPA, supplier quality, and customer complaint resolution) and other structured quality improvement tools; utilizing SAP enterprise resource planning tool for forecasting production and scheduling;

directing operations of batch specialty chemical production processes, including alkoxylation (EO/PO); leadership in OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance; and capital project implementation, commissioning of new chemical assets. Apply at
