Duties:

Independently performs volunteer coordination and enrichment duties in support of Animal Shelter and Adoption Center operations. Manages important processes and procedures as assigned and continuously modifies and improves them. Prepares complex reports and summaries requiring specialized knowledge of a functional discipline; interacts with other departments at own initiative as necessary to complete assignments. Creates and performs essential trainings for the volunteers, including but not limited to new volunteer orientation, dog-walking, enrichment, and playgroups.

Maintains records of volunteer hours, active and inactive volunteers' lists, and any other data as necessary and reports this information to the appropriate person or organization. Manages inventories of volunteer supplies, such as lanyards, waste bags, leashes, items needed for playgroups, toys, kongs, and treats. Interfaces with other City departments and organizations as necessary. Creates, revises, and updates any SOPs that relate to volunteer duties.

Maintains copies of signed SOPs in individual volunteers' files. Creates and maintains an enrichment program for shelter dogs and cats to aid in reducing stress which increases adoptability, resulting in increased lifesaving. Creates, revises, and updates any SOPs that relate to enrichment activities. Interacts with and monitors volunteers to ensure compliance with volunteer SOPs. Takes appropriate action for volunteer noncompliance.

Composes and types routine memos, letters, correspondence and reports. Establishes and plans volunteer appreciation and volunteer recruitment events. Designs and coordinates a volunteer mentorship program, pairing new volunteers with established volunteers. Maintains training records and other records associated with volunteer activities. Supports other Animal Control and Adoption work teams with duties not related to volunteer coordination as necessary. Interacts with the public and other city employees in a courteous, helpful, and respectful manner at all times.

Attends adoption events and any other events that require volunteer assistance as needed, including weekday evenings or weekends. Oversees and coordinates the community cat program and all volunteers who participate in the program.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED. Minimum of 3 years of related volunteer coordination experience. Valid Texas driver's license and clean driving record. PREFERRED:
Minimum of two years of related animal handling experience. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    • From 6 to less than 11 years of service - three weeks of vacation per year.
    • From 11 to less than 21 years of service - four weeks of vacation per year.
    • From 21 to less than 26 years of service - five weeks of vacation per year.
    • From 26 years of service and up - six weeks of vacation per year.
