Position Summary

Put your maintenance and repair skills to good use as an Onsite Technician II focused on Life Safety Services in the Vallen Safety Services Group. Install, inspect, test, and maintain (ITM) life safety systems and equipment for established customers on a scheduled basis.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct service calls.
  • Perform systems testing and inspections to prescribed standards.
  • Provide on-site emergency troubleshooting and maintenance of customer Life Safety Systems.
  • Identify code issues and discrepancies.
  • Prepare accurate, timely Technician worksheets (TWS) and reports.
  • Install Life Safety Systems.
  • Provide customer service during installation and/or ITM of Life Safety Systems, including but not limited to:
    Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarm and Detection Systems, Gas Detection Systems, Foam Systems, Dry Chemical Systems, Clean Agent Systems, Special Hazard Systems, and Water Based Systems.
  • Ensure testing and repair documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted for invoicing.
  • Provide required documentation copies to customers.
  • Maintain basic knowledge of regulatory standards (State, OSHA, NFPA).
  • Exhibit safe work practices.
  • Assist in shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders, and distributing to sales associates for processing.
  • Use company assets such as company vehicle, inventory, safety equipment, laptop, scanner, test equipment, tools, radio, cell phone, fuel card and/or credit card as required.
  • Maintain proper care of all assets per Vallen policies.
Job Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 certifications (manufacturing/state) in a fire protection related field
  • Fire Alarm & Extinguisher experience 1–3 years or WBS Construction 1–3 years
  • RME-I (if applicable)
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Strong communication skills
  • Specific relevant experience
  • Experience in installation, maintenance, repair and service of life safety systems and equipment
  • Ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen Maintain minimum productivity of 90% within 60 days
  • Current Motor Vehicle License with good driving record
  • Commercial Driver's License required if carrying hazardous materials
  • Proficient with hand tools
  • Complete repairs and maintenance of equipment in a timely, accurate manner
  • Provide assistance, advice, and training to Vallen associates and plant personnel
  • Assist warehouse personnel with order fulfillment as needed
  • Keep certifications and licenses current and renewed via continuing education
  • Read, write, and comprehend English (instructions, processes, and quality)
  • Pass drug & alcohol screen, physical exam, and background check
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Indoor and outdoor service work in various field locations.
  • Possible work in hazardous environments within a plant; requires safety precautions.
  • Ability to work in climatic weather (cold/heat) during day or night operations.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Occasional lifting up to 55 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairwells up to 15 levels.
  • Ability to ascend/descend ladders up to 24 ft. high.
  • Able to walk a normal pace for up to 15 continuous minutes.
  • Able to work standing for 8–10 hours.
  • Bending, climbing, stooping as needed for equipment access.
  • Pass all test requirements to be approved to work offshore (if applicable).
