Overview

The Role

Analyzes, researches, designs, and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to optimize materials for engineering design of structures, systems, and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic, and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication, and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes, and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes, and quality engineering specifications.

May conduct failure analysis, life predictions, and definition of requirement specifications. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.

Must Have
  • 9 years with Bachelor of Science degree in a related field; 7 years of relevant professional experience with a Master’s degree; 4 years of relevant professional experience with a Ph.D.
Nice to Have
  • Degree in Material Science or related field; expertise in analysis and testing/modeling.
  • Ability to address waterfront issues, develop and manage, and budget and schedule project timelines.
  • Strong critical thinking skills; ability to develop creative solutions to problem statements.
  • Understanding of shipbuilding process with strong data analytic skills; experience developing, tracking, and monitoring tools such as ROI, performance, cost, etc.
  • Comfortable working alone as well as in a team environment where cross collaboration is critical.
