The RoleAnalyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems, and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic, and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes, and quality engineering specifications.
Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems, and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
9 Years with Bachelor of Science degree in related field; 7 years of relevant professional experience with a Master’s Degree; 4 years of relevant professional experience with a PhD.
Nice to HaveDegree in Material Science or related field; expertise in analysis and testing/modeling. Ability to address waterfront issues as they emerge, develop and manage, budget and schedule individual project timelines. Strong critical thinking skills. Ability to develop creative solutions to problem statements. Understanding of shipbuilding process with strong data analytic skills and experience developing, tracking/monitoring tools such as ROI, performance, cost, etc.
Comfortable working alone and in a team environment where cross‑collaboration is critical to executing tasks.
