Position OverviewThe Physician Assistant works under the supervision of physician(s) to deliver comprehensive health care to patients. He/she assists with clinical management services within the scope of practice, collaborates with other team members, provides education to staff and patients as needed, and assumes other duties as assigned.
The Physician Assistant practices according to a board‑approved protocol mutually agreed upon by the PA and supervising physician. Each protocol specifies diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, pharmacologic agents, and backup coverage. No PA may practice until the protocol is approved by the Board.
EducationGraduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs.
LicenseMississippi State Licensure as a Physician Assistant.
CertificationNational Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification required. Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
ExperienceA minimum of two (2) years as a Physician Assistant. Experience in an acute care hospital or a hospital‑owned physician clinic setting preferred.
Physical DemandsModerately active work: frequent movement within the office and facility, travel to other facilities in the SRHS service area, occasional lifting and carrying of objects.
Exposure to body fluids and repetitive wrist/hand motions expected.
Clear vision and hearing required for monitoring monitors and communicating with patients and staff.
Strong communication, decision‑making, written and verbal skills. Ability to handle high‑stress situations, work under pressure, and meet deadlines. Requires attention to detail and the capacity to multitask in complex scenarios.
Special DemandsSuperior customer‑service skills, professional etiquette, and proficiency with computers, MS Outlook, and Word.
Ability to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment across all age groups and comprehensive knowledge of advanced nursing and primary care principles.
Weekend and Holiday call rotation where applicable.
