Location:
Pascagoula Hospital, 2809 Denny Ave., Pascagoula, Mississippi, 39581, United States. Part‑time, 7am-7:30pm with rotating weekends and holidays.
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) evaluates specimens for acceptability for proper testing and performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures. He/She verifies accuracy of results before reporting and reports test results in a timely manner.
Responsibilities include performing needed maintenance and calibration on instruments and equipment as appropriate, troubleshooting instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimens when problems occur, complying with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures, and performing phlebotomy (venipunctures, finger sticks, bleeding times) as appropriate.

EducationAssociate Degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or related scientific discipline required by CLIA.

CertificationsRegistered as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) at (or within 1 year) of job start.
ExperienceA minimum of one (1) year experience preferred.
Reports ToLaboratory Operation Manager/Director of Laboratory Services.

Physical DemandsStands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions in performing day‑to‑day activities. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and do a great deal of walking without experiencing undue fatigue. May be exposed to communicable disease or radiation.
Mental DemandsMust demonstrate keen mental faculties, assessment and decision making abilities, superior communication and speaking skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and the ability to multi‑task in complex situations is required. Must be able to maintain collaborative and respectful working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
SpecialDemands
Must possess superior customer service skills, professional etiquette, and proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (including MS Outlook and Word). Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area with the employee providing their own transportation and possessing a valid driver license. Must function independently, adapt to workload demands, set priorities, possess highly developed organizational, planning, and management writing skills, understand fundamentals of automated data processing, and be able to quickly gain a detailed understanding of complex computerized and non‑computerized information.
Also requires proficient knowledge of budgeting, general ledger, and financial statement preparation.
