Overview
Patient Care Associate Apprentice role at Singing River Health System. This is part of the Healthcare Workforce Academy as a full-time, academic shift position (Days; Monday - Friday, class times 7am-3:30pm; Clinical Shift - varies). Class starts dates: 2025 April 7, June 16, August 25, November 3.

Position overview:
The Patient Care Associate Apprentice participates in a one-year Department of Labor Industry Recognized Apprentice program consisting of academics, preparation for Nursing Assistant certification, and a work-based learning timeframe to develop talents. The program promotes application of skill to encourage confidence, proficiency and competency. Classroom academics take place at Singing River Hospital – Pascagoula. Work assignments can be at any Singing River Health System facility.
The role, under supervision and guidance, provides basic nursing care (personal and restorative care) to patients according to predefined guidelines and a plan of care facilitated by a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, under the direct supervision of the RN or LPN. All duties are expected to be performed in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation requirements, and governing guidance for health care employees.

Responsibilities- Perform basic nursing care (personal and restorative care) under supervision following predefined guidelines and an established plan of care.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- License: N/A.
- Certification: Must complete and maintain current BCLS certification within 3 months of hire date.
- Experience: Equivalent related work experience preferred.
- Reports To:
RN responsible for patient care management/patient care during a shift, Patient Care Coordinator, Patient Care Manager, Instructor. - Supervises:
None.
- Physical Demands: Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses various physical motions; ability to stand for extended periods and comprehensive walking; potential exposure to communicable disease or radiation. Visual and auditory requirements and manual dexterity are necessary to operate equipment and communicate effectively. Must be able to work extended periods and adapt to schedule changes including weekends and holidays.
- Mental Demands: Keen decision-making, strong communication and written/verbal skills, ability to work under pressure, and attention to detail; ability to maintain collaborative professional relationships.
- Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
- Proficient computer skills (keyboard proficient) and familiarity with MS Outlook and Word.
- Part-time position requiring at least 48 hours per four-week period or 72 hours per six-week period, including twelve weekend hours. May work on other units with competency, and will work at least two holiday shifts annually. Travel within the SRHS service area is required; valid driver license required.
