Position OverviewThe Patient Care Associate provides basic nursing care (i.e. personal and restorative care) to patients according to predefined guidelines and a plan of care established by a Registered Nurse or LPN, under their direct supervision. The plan of care incorporates CDC guidelines for infection control and the Singing River Health System nursing plan for provision of care, treatment, and services. All duties must be performed in accordance with SRHS procedures and policies, accreditation standards, and governing guidance.

EducationHigh School Diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of a Nurse Assistant/Aide program preferred.
LicenseN/A
Certification- Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification recognized by the State of Mississippi Department of Health preferred. (CNA certification required upon hire for SNF unit; apprentices transferring to SNF are allowed 120 days to schedule the skills exam; if not obtained within 120 days, removal from SNF unit.)
- Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
- Must complete de‑escalation training by the end of orientation (90 days) and maintain appropriate level of de‑escalation training.
Equivalent related work experience or completion of a Nurse Aide program required.
Reports ToRegistered Nurse or LPN responsible for patient care management during a shift.
SupervisesNone.
Physical DemandsWork is moderately active, involving sitting with frequent movements around the facility, traveling to other medical centers within the SRHS service area, and exerting negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull objects, including patients. Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues may carry infectious disease hazard. Repetitive motions of wrists, hands, or fingers occur with use of standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.
Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels and appropriate visual acuity is required. Must be able to work extended periods without undue fatigue and adapt to schedule changes as needed by the hospital.
Mental DemandsRequires keen mental faculties, assessment and decision‑making abilities, superior communication skills (speaking, writing, using telephone), emotional stability and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and multitasking in complex situations is required, as is maintaining collaborative relationships within SRHS and external organizations.
Special DemandsSuperior customer service skills and professional etiquette; proficiency with computer (keyboard proficiency) and office technology (telephone, fax, MS Outlook, Word). Demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and professional skills for a patient population of all ages.
