Responsibilities
Working from blueprints or templates, lays out position of parts on metal using a scribe and hand tools.
Locates and marks reference lines.
Positions parts in hull of vessel with assistance from a Tacker or Helper.
Aligns parts in relation to each other using jacks, come-a-longs, turnbuckles, clips, wedges and mauls.
Marks location of holes to be drilled and installs temporary fasteners to hold parts in place for welding or riveting.
May tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.
May bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts, utilizing the above-mentioned equipment.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of blueprints and drawings.
Desired Experience & TrainingPrior experience as a ship fitter is preferred; capable of operating a cutting torch and tack welding.
