Position Overview
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice RN working in collaboration with physicians to deliver health care services to meet the specialized physiologic and psychological needs of patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic health conditions. The NP delivers health care services to a population of patients within their scope of certification and education.
Education
Requires successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master’s degree in Nursing.
Licensure
Mississippi State Licensure as Nurse Practitioner required.
Certification
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Medicine Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Acute Geriatric Nurse Practitioner required. Must complete and maintain BCLS upon hire and/or transfer. If working in Psychiatric Services, must maintain current Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner certification through the ANCC. If working in Surgical Services, must complete and maintain BCLS and ACLS. If working in Pediatrics, current specialty certification as required by department;
Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP) preferred. Must maintain BCLS and PALS upon hire and/or transfer. If working in Wound Care, current specialty certification as required by department; must maintain BCLS and ACLS upon hire and/or transfer. De-escalation training must be completed by the end of position orientation (90 days).
Experience
One (1) year of advanced nursing experience preferred. For Psychiatric Services, a minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care or psychiatric hospital is required. Previous experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in inpatient and outpatient settings is preferred.
Physical Demands
Work is moderately active with movement required around the facility and occasional travel within the SRHS service area. Exertion required to lift or move objects and exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues. Repetitive motions for computer work. Visual and auditory demands in normal and clinical environments. Must be able to be active for extended periods and accommodate hospital schedules, including changes for off days, shifts, or weekends.
Mental Demands
Strong assessment and decision-making abilities; superior communication skills; ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and maintain professional relationships within SRHS and partner organizations.
Special Demands
Superior customer service, professional etiquette, computer proficiency (keyboard, MS Outlook, Word), and general office technology.
