The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice RN working in collaboration with physicians to deliver health care services to meet the specialized physiologic and psychological needs of patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic health conditions. The NP delivers health care services to a population of patients within their scope of certification and education.

Requires successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master’s degree in Nursing.

Mississippi State Licensure as Nurse Practitioner required.

Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Medicine Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Acute Geriatric Nurse Practitioner required. Must complete and maintain BCLS upon hire and/or transfer. If works in Psychiatric Services, must maintain current Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). If works in Surgical Services, must complete and maintain BCLS and ACLS certifications upon hire and/or transfer.

If works in Pediatrics, current specialty certification as required by department;
Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP) preferred. Must complete and maintain BCLS and PALS certifications upon hire and/or transfer. If works in Wound Care, current specialty certification as required by department;
Must complete and maintain BCLS and ACLS certifications upon hire and/or transfer.

One (1) year of advanced nursing experience preferred. If works in Psychiatric Services, a minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care or psychiatric hospital required. Previous experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in an inpatient and outpatient setting preferred.

Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent movement about the office and facility, and travel to other SRHS service locations. Exertion required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects. Frequent exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues. Repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and fingers when using standard office equipment. Visual acuity required for reading and computer work. Must be able to be active for extended periods and work varying schedules as needed by the hospital.

Must demonstrate strong assessment, decision-making, and communication skills (oral and written). Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain emotional stability. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required. Must maintain collaborative and respectful working relationships within SRHS and with other organizations.

Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Proficiency with computers and office technology (keyboard, MS Outlook, Word) and ability to use related systems.
