Performs law enforcement work relating to animal control; does related work as required, and any other duties assigned by the City Manager or the Supervisor.

• Patrols City in pick-up truck with animal cage; picks up stray animals and transports them to pound
• Maintains contact with headquarters by using two-way radio set
• Disposes of animals according to city ordinances and policies
• Signs affidavits on violations of City ordinances pertaining to animal control
• Picks up and buries dead animals in the City
• Impounds, feeds, and cares for animals
• Keeps close surveillance over suspected rabid animals confined in pound
• Maintains the City Pound

• Good knowledge of the City streets and City ordinances regarding the confinement of animals
• Good knowledge of the symptoms of rabies
• Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public
• Ability to prepare activity reports
• Ability to operate a light truck and two-way radio
• Ability to handle large and/or vicious animals
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public
• Requires the ability to stand, sit, walk and drive for substantial periods of time
• Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds maximum; frequent lifting and/or carrying up to 25 pounds
• Must be able to use hands and fingers to operate equipment such as firearms, tranquilizer guns, and traps
• Some experience in the care and handling of animals and completion of high school
• Valid driver’s license is required
