The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Performs in-process and final non-destructive inspections using the various methods of NDT on manufactured shipbuilding products to ensure compliance with code, quality
standards, owner specifications, American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS) and or United States Coast Guard (USCG) aa well as government requirements.
TYPICAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following statements are intended to describe
the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:
Inspects parts, products and processes using various NDT methods (VT, MT, PT, UT and RT film interpretation) to insure conformance with standards, specifications, regulations or code requirements.
Completes detailed inspection records, reports, weld maps and other forms of documentation.
Sets up call-out inspections with ABS and U.S. Coast Guard based on codes, rules and regulations.
Interacts with ABS, government and owner's representatives as well as craft and shipyard management on the call-out inspections set up and in-process checks and the results of the inspections.
Ensure that all of the quality check procedures put in place by the company are followed during every production phase.
Create comprehensive documentation for quality issues and note the corrective actions that were taken
Educate production team on quality control issues and work with departmental managers to improve overall company safety and product quality.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to read blueprints and follow written procedures and safety requirements.
Familiar with regulatory bodies such as ABS and USCG as well as codes such as ASME and AWS. Must possess excellent communication skills.
Proven history of understanding industry safety standards and quality expectations.
Strong understanding of raw materials and the manufacturing industry.
Good math and technical skills.
Strong understanding of quality control standards and testing techniques.
Basic computer skills, including MS Office applications.
Demonstrate proficiency in the use of inspection tools and equipment.
Willingness to learn and become certified in non-destructive testing methods VT, MT, PT, UT, RT interpretation
