Drinking Water Treatment Business Class Lead
Join HDR as you lead the Water Business Group’s drinking water treatment initiative, shaping how communities manage water for generations to come. This role blends leadership, technical excellence, and business development across Washington.
Responsibilities- Technical Excellence:
- Lead project delivery from planning to construction to meet client expectations.
- Serve as project or design manager and head critical area and regional projects.
- Coordinate, monitor, and elevate technical competencies of business‑class staff and deliverables.
- Apply proactive project management to ensure all work is planned, organized, controlled, and delivered.
- Collaborate with operations, marketing, project managers, and delivery staff on business‑class initiatives.
- Develop and lead technical and marketing initiatives.
- Engage in practice and professional discipline groups to continually improve standards and best practices.
- Conduct or assist in quality assurance and quality control reviews.
- Staff Development:
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, and manage technical personnel.
- Monitor utilization, morale, quality control, and marketing support across multidisciplinary teams.
- Promote employee wellness and deliver meaningful workplace experiences.
- Support the development of technical experts.
- Implement, monitor, and support company policy.
- Supervise engineers and junior staff (typically 2‑6 people).
- Business Development:
- Actively participate in marketing planning, proposals, and interviews.
- Lead strategic planning, budgeting, and plan implementation for the business class.
- Drive area initiatives related to water treatment.
- Collaborate with water treatment business leaders and experts nationwide.
- Take responsibility for area coordination, technical competence improvement, and client delivery throughout the business class.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or closely related field.
- 10+ years of professional experience.
- Commitment to quality, improvement, and HDR values.
- Active professional or engineering registration with experience managing diverse teams.
- Collaborative work with business leaders, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers.
- Active engagement in an employee‑owned culture.
- Preferred:
- Master’s degree is a plus.
- Active involvement in professional or industry organizations (e.g., PNWS AWWA, PNCWA, WRF).
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills necessary to grow and lead a business group.

- Olympia: $136,990 – $195,700
- Gig Harbor / Pasco: $150,689 – $215,270
- Seattle/Bellevue/Everett: $157,539 – $225,055
