A new chapter in Pacific Northwest destination golf is underway just outside Pasco, Washington. Perched atop dramatic bluffs, this in-development, David McLay Kidd project is positioned to become one of the most compelling new golf experiences in the United States.
Set within the sweeping landscapes of the Columbia River Basin, the property features sandy soils, rolling contours, firm-playing ground, and expansive long views. The Snake River’s presence provides a dramatic and powerful natural backdrop that will define the course’s visual and strategic identity.
The Golf Course Superintendent (Grow‑In & Opening) will lead all agronomic operations from construction through grow‑in and opening. Starting in Q1 2026, this individual will collaborate with Kemper Sports, the architect, construction partners, and resort leadership to ensure a successful turf establishment program and a smooth transition into opening operations.
MajorDuties & Responsibilities
Grow‑In & Pre‑Opening Leadership
- Direct and manage all turf grow‑in activities from seed-to-establishment.
- Develop early mowing schedules, fertility plans, and chemical programs tailored to the Pasco climate.
- Collaborate with design and construction teams to ensure intended playability.
- Review and report on development progress/timelines.
- Establish cultural practices, topdressing, grooming programs, and long‑term agronomic philosophies.
- Oversee irrigation programming, auditing, moisture management, and hand‑watering protocols.
- Assist with refinement of greens, surrounds, bunkers, and final shaping.
- Recruit, hire, train, and mentor the agronomy team.
- Build a positive and accountable high‑performance culture.
- Establish SOPs, schedules, workflows, and maintenance standards.
- Prepare annual operating plans, maintenance calendars, and budgets.
- Manage purchasing, inventory, vendors, and materials procurement.
- Oversee equipment maintenance and preventative programs.
- Maintain Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program.
- Track agronomic reporting, moisture logs, and data.
- Deliver elite destination-golf playing conditions.
- Oversee daily course setup, mowing programs, firmness, and greens performance.
- Lead ongoing surface refinement such as aerification and topdressing.
- Ensure compliance with Washington State regulations.
- Maintain safe operations, documentation, and chemical handling standards.
- Manage sustainable water use aligned with environmental guidelines.
- Washington State pesticide license (or ability to obtain in 60 days).
- CGCS designation preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
