Lead Repack Mechanic

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Lead Repack Mechanic to guide our packaging maintenance team and support facility-wide operational excellence.

What We’re Looking For

As the Lead Repack Mechanic, you will serve as the technical and instructional leader for all packaging maintenance activities within the Repack department. This role is responsible for mentoring mechanics, driving maintenance standards, coordinating repairs, and ensuring consistent, efficient, and safe operation of high-speed packaging equipment. You will work closely with Maintenance Leadership, Production Leads, and QA to ensure uptime, product quality, sanitation compliance, and continuous improvement across the repack area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Team Development
    • Provide daily direction, coaching, and technical guidance to Repack Mechanics to ensure high-quality workmanship and consistent execution of maintenance tasks.
    • Train new and existing mechanics on equipment operation, troubleshooting, sanitation requirements, and preventative maintenance procedures.
    • Model and reinforce correct safety practices, GMPs, LOTO, and RTE sanitation standards.
    • Lead by example with professionalism, urgency, and accountability.
  • Technical Ownership
    • Serve as the subject matter expert for packaging equipment, including form-fill-seal machines, vacuum sealers, conveyors, case erectors, checkweighers, metal detectors, and labelers.
    • Guide mechanics through complex troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control system issues.
    • Oversee equipment changeovers, calibrations, and line setups to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
    • Validate work completed by mechanics and ensure all repairs meet operational and food safety requirements.
  • Coordination & Communication
    • Act as the primary maintenance liaison for the Repack area during the shift, partnering with Production Leads, QA Techs, and Supervisors.
    • Prioritize work orders and delegate tasks to mechanics based on skill level and operational urgency.
    • Conduct shift hand-off updates ensuring clear communication of equipment status, pending repairs, and upcoming priorities.
    • Support daily maintenance meetings with insights, documentation, and improvement recommendations.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring packaging equipment issues and drive long-term corrective actions.
    • Collaborate with maintenance leadership to optimize preventive maintenance schedules and frequencies.
    • Identify opportunities to improve uptime, reduce waste, and enhance overall process reliability.
    • Assist with installation, testing, and rollout of new equipment or upgrades.
  • Documentation & Compliance
    • Ensure all maintenance activities are accurately documented in the CMMS, including work orders, parts usage, and time allocation.
    • Monitor sanitation and allergen control compliance in all RTE areas.
    • Enforce and improve adherence to SOPs, SSOPs, HACCP, and quality standards.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of maintenance experience in food manufacturing or high-speed packaging; supervisory or lead experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic troubleshooting abilities; exposure to sensors, motors, drives, and basic PLC logic.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to teach, mentor, and hold team members accountable.
  • Experience in RTE or highly regulated food environments required.
  • Proficiency with CMMS platforms and standard documentation practices.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
  • Willingness to work swing shift, weekends, or overtime based on production needs.
