Functions and Responsibilities

Job Summary

Learning Associates/Tutors – English, Math, Computer Science and Biology/Chemistry/Physics
Part time/Seasonal/As needed for support of the Branch Campus and departments in the area

Compensation:
This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $16 – $20 per hour.

Supervisory Role

Duties & Responsibilities

• Familiar with Microsoft package
• Demonstrates knowledge of subject area to be covered
• Communicate with faculty and students about tutoring needs, subject matter information
• Inform the Dean of CCEWD & WEC of any issues
• Be of service to faculty as they provide instruction
• Interact with Online support staff – for Moodle, Web Assign and other assignments that may require online
• Assist students with a positive attitude so they feel welcomed and part of the Essex CC community
• Other duties as assigned by the Dean or designee

Physical Requirements

• Use strength to lift items needed to perform the functions of the job.
• Sit, stand and walk/move from place to place for required periods of time.
• Move between buildings.
• Speak and hear, communicate using telephone and/or walkie talkie.
• Use close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception along with the ability to focus vision.
• Communicate effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
• Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, including but not limited to, computers, keyboards, telephones, calculators, and controls.
• Bend, twist, climb, push, pull, and lift.

Additional Requirements

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science and/or Humanities, Math, Biology or any of the subjects that tutoring is needed
• Bi-lingual a plus
• Experience of working at a college
• Hrs – Not to exceed 24 weeks per week – minimum of 6 hrs
• Based on needs of department or area.
