AI Engineer (Applied/Software)
At Bristol Myers Squibb, our employees often ask, “Who are you working for?”—a question that fuels collaboration, accountability, and urgency in our work. Our purpose-driven culture inspires us to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines to prevail over serious diseases. We offer uniquely interesting and meaningful work, opportunities for growth, and a supportive environment that values inclusion, wellbeing, flexibility, and comprehensive benefits.
This is work that transforms the lives of patients, and the careers of those who do it.
The Commercial Analytical Science (CAS) team within the Quality Control Strategy and Science (QCSAS) department is embedding AI into its everyday work, and this co-op is dedicated entirely to that goal. The co-op will design, build, and roll out Claude-based workflows that make the team more efficient and allow us to complete more high-quality work. This is a hands‑on role for a student with deep knowledge of AI tools.
Over six months, the co-op will develop Claude Projects, Artifacts, templates, and Claude Cowork workflows, then train the group to use them with confidence. By the end of the term, Claude should be an integral part of how the team works, supported by a playbook and handoff plan that sustains the program after the co‑op ends.
Key Responsibilities- Build and maintain Claude Projects tailored to the team’s recurring analytical tasks, with clear instructions, curated knowledge, and documented use cases.
- Develop Artifacts (interactive tools, calculators, dashboards, and reports) that streamline routine analyses and deliverables.
- Create reusable Claude templates and prompt libraries so colleagues get consistent, high‑quality results.
- Use Claude Code to automate and script analytical tasks, data handling, and document generation.
- Build and test multi‑step workflows in Claude Cowork that take repetitive work off the team’s plate.
- Meet with team members to identify bottlenecks, prioritize use cases, and measure time savings.
- Document workflows, best practices, and guardrails (including data handling and responsible use) in a team playbook.
- Educate and coach the group through hands‑on workshops, demos, and office hours, driving adoption of Claude in daily work.
- Report progress regularly and present results and recommendations to the team and leadership at the end of the co‑op.
Required
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (degree programs in a biological, chemical, or physical science will be given a preference, but not required).
- Demonstrated fluency with Claude and Claude Code, including prompt design, Projects, and Artifacts. Applicants should provide examples of their work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑experts.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Availability for 20‑30 hours/week for the full 6‑month term.
- All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment. Please note that visa sponsorship, including for student or temporary work authorization programs, is not available for this role. Candidates must have work authorization that does not require sponsorship now or in the future.
- Coursework and/or certifications in AI, machine learning, or Claude (e.g., Anthropic’s educational courses on Claude and Claude Code, or university AI/data science courses).
- Experience with Claude Cowork or other agentic AI tools.
- Working knowledge of Python, scripting, or the command line.
- Experience with scientific data analysis, reporting, or analytical workflows.
- Prior experience teaching, tutoring, or leading…
