Job Title
Medical Laboratory Scientist II
Location & HoursPaterson, NJ. Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with rotational weekends.
Compensation$5,000 sign‑on bonus for external applicants. Pay range: $30.01–$49.50 per hour. Shift differentials of 10% (second shift) and 15% (third shift) may apply. Annual performance bonus possible.

- Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity, exercising independent judgment in qualified specialties.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all testing areas; troubleshoot all applicable instruments and procedures.
- Support the department in quality control, complex problem resolution, customer support, instrument maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
- Perform and report assigned analytical tests per SOP, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
- Support and comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance.
- Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround times, including stat or critical results.
- Verify reagent and test kit dates and perform QC analysis to ensure data accuracy and instrument function.
- Inform supervisory personnel of all problems related to test procedures.
- Report deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate in investigations.
- Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for physician review.
- Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
- Complete training and competency checklists as required; assist supervisor with training of staff.
- Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
- Use PPE, engineering controls, or work‑practice controls as directed.
- Answer questions from clients or other laboratory personnel.
- Participate in government or regulatory inspections as needed.
- Assume lead responsibilities when a supervisor is absent, if qualified and delegated.

Required Work Experience
One year full‑time experience or training in high‑complexity clinical laboratory testing.
Preferred Work Experience
Minimum three years in the present department, using the most current year practices.
Physical And Mental Requirements
- Lifting: 1–10 lb frequently; 11–25 lb occasionally; 36–50 lb seldom; over 50 lb without assistance.
- Stand and work at bench for long periods.
- Frequent walking and/or standing.
- Use manual and automated pipettes and instruments requiring significant manual dexterity.
Knowledge
- Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty.
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
- BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology; or Associate’s in Laboratory Science/Medical Technology.
- Previously qualified as a technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published 1990).
- Foreign‑educated candidates must provide detailed credential evaluation from IERF. U.S.‑educated candidates must provide original transcript.
- State‑specific requirements may apply; verify with local HR or QA.

Education
BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology; or Associate’s in Laboratory Science/Medical Technology; or previously qualified under 42 CFR 493.1433.
License/Certificate
ASCP Certification (preferred). MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, CLS, or Clinical Lab Scientist includes appropriate credentials.
