Role Description The School Nurse is a part-time, on-site role based at Nova Scholars Learning Center LLC in Paterson, NJ. This role involves providing routine health assessments, administering prescribed medications, and offering first aid and emergency care to learners and staff during center hours. The School Nurse maintains accurate health records, monitors chronic conditions, and follows established health protocols and state regulations.

Daily responsibilities include communicating with families and caregivers about student health needs, collaborating with educators and administrators on health-related plans, and promoting health education and preventive care initiatives within the center. The person in this role is expected to support a safe, healthy learning environment and respond promptly and professionally to health concerns that arise.
Qualifications

  • Valid state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN); current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Experience in pediatric, school, or community health nursing, with knowledge of common childhood illnesses and chronic conditions.
  • Ability to assess health needs, provide appropriate interventions, and follow established clinical and emergency procedures.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with learners, families, educators, and administrators.
  • Proficiency in maintaining confidential health records, documenting care accurately, and using basic computer systems.
  • Commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive care and adherence to all health, safety, and privacy regulations.
  • Organizational and time-management skills to support multiple students and tasks in a busy school environment.
  • Flexibility to work part-time, on-site, and adapt to the needs of an educational setting.
