Controls Systems Engineer II – Teknor Apex Company

Join our Corporate Engineering team as a Control Systems Engineer II. You will be part of project teams to design, purchase, and install equipment; assist plants in troubleshooting and problem‑solving; and design processes for potential projects.

Main Duties or Responsibilities
  • Design and draft elements relating to projects for implementation.
  • Contact manufacturers and vendors for materials required to support proposed design.
  • Receive quotes and delivery schedules on projects.
  • File documentation of engineering drawings.
  • Ensure company safety procedures are being adhered to.
  • Write Ladder Logic on new projects and existing equipment.
  • Perform basic computer system design – Web Gateway, Virtualization, etc.
  • Perform basic network design on new projects and system upgrades.
  • Provide technical support for facilities worldwide.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Perform Control Cabinet Design.
  • Participate in maintenance as needed.
Skills & Experience or Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in electrical or computer systems.
  • 5–7 years of engineering experience.
  • Strong skills in Ladder Logic with Allen Bradley systems (PLC 5, SLC, Control Logix).
  • Strong skills in Solid Works Electrical.
  • Strong skills in HMI design, preferably with Factory Talk and Ignition.
  • Ability to evaluate project requirements and apply appropriate solutions.
  • Strong skills with Ethernet/IP and basic networking best practices.
  • Understanding of plant power distribution equipment and controls.
  • Understanding of project engineering/project management.
  • Strong coding skills – Python and Java.
  • Problem‑solving and innovative approach to solutions.
  • Ability to consider both big picture and details; daily analysis and decision making.

Travel – estimated 30% with some weekend overnights.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform duties under specific time requirements.
  • Ability to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.

Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.
