Nautilus is looking for a Prototyping Technologist to support the prototyping and production of our textile-integrated systems.

Nautilus Defense builds state-of-the-art textile-integrated systems for monitoring high-value assets and their environments. Our technologies enable the broad distribution and interconnection of electronics in textiles without detracting from their mechanical properties. We leverage these technologies to develop systems of immediate value to our customers while continuously advancing their readiness for manufacturing and use at scale.

Nautilus is a small interdisciplinary team structured to facilitate the rapid experimental development of novel integrated systems. All Nautilus team members demonstrate high levels of technical leadership and personal autonomy. The ideal candidate for this position has experience working both independently and as a member of a fast-moving, high-performing team.

Nautilus is looking for a Prototyping Technologist to support the prototyping and production of our textile-integrated systems. The candidate will work closely with Engineering and Prototyping teams to produce systems which incorporate electronic devices and assemblies with small footprints. Responsibilities in this role will include the proper operation and maintenance of machines, developing, executing, and iteratively improving upon established textile-integrated systems manufacturing methods, and producing and testing materials and systems.

• Employ digital manufacturing tools including CAD, 3D printers, laser cutters and other tools
• Fabricate and assemble mechanical systems in support rapid prototyping and pilot-scale manufacturing
• Surface mount soldering and associated techniques
• Electronic test methods and equipment use
• Development and prototyping of integrated textile systems
• Assist engineers and project managers throughout concept development, design, testing, and production
• Support project-driven experiments and assembly of deliverables
• Conduct research and development in support of the advancement of Nautilus' core technologies

• Development of engineering prototypes with demonstrated success in a leadership or project ownership position
• Experience with digital manufacturing hardware and software, including CAD and 3D printing
• Experience with textiles and soft goods fabrication
• Experience with metal fabrication and machining
• Take initiative, solve problems, work independently, and self-motivate to meet project milestones in a fast-paced environment
• Work on small teams pursuing ambitious technical development goals
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
