The purpose of this position is to develop, design, prepare and deliver various public health program curriculum to elementary, middle, and secondary school students in a school and/or teen center setting. Program curriculum includes a variety of public health education grant programs including but not limited to teen pregnancy prevention, personal hygiene, healthy relationships, tobacco use prevention, opioid overdose prevention, oral hygiene, bullying, and sun safety.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position does not supervise other employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Develops, coordinates, implements, and presents complex and sensitive County public health education programs including prevention and education services as defined by grant programs to elementary, middle, and secondary school students. Develops and designs printed materials and other educational tools. Instructs and supervises students in a school and/or teen center setting during regular school day hours, after school hours, and/or on weekends.
(30%) - Represents the County Health Department when presenting program curriculum to school administration, principals, school boards, and parents. Coordinates and collaborates with community-based organizations, schools, and other appropriate facilities to implement the health education programs. Coordinates equipment, supplies, and quality management/retention activities. (30%)
- Oversees quality management efforts, including the preparation and application of surveys to determine the program delivery effectiveness. Monitors progress of program activities and results and provides updates and reports to management. Establishes and monitors program contracts. Directs comprehensive reporting and evaluation system to meet grant requirements. Manages and maintains program records, data and documentation of attendance, objectives, curricula, and evaluations; maintains program databases in compliance with State, Federal, and local policies and procedures, regulations, and division rules.
(20%) - Applies basic principles, practices, techniques, teaching, and communication methods related to health equity and equality. (10%)
- Develops, maintains, and enhances relationships with parents and internal and external agencies and community partners/stakeholders such as school districts, community organizations, and governmental agencies. (10%)
- Performs other duties as assigned. (10%)
This position provides research support on Project and Team budgets.
PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIESProvides project resource allocation based on pre-approved resources involving community service projects.
ORAL COMMUNICATION DUTIESThis position gives presentations, explains County procedures or processes, responds to public inquiries, and participates in meetings.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION DUTIESThis position creates or edits documents, internal memos, emails, reports, proposals, and grants.
INTERACTIONS WITH THE GENERAL PUBLICInteracts extensively with employees, customers, the general public, vendors, regulatory bodies, and other groups and/or individuals and Institutions over the telephone, by email, and/or in person.
INTERACTIONS SPECIFICALLY WITH CUSTOMERSFrequently (More than 25% but less than 40% in a year)
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREDBachelor’s degree in Education or closely related field.
MINIMUM YEARS OF DIRECTLY RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIREDTwo (2) years experience working with students in a teaching setting; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS REQUIRED- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate and valid Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

- Regularly sits to complete reports, operate computers, complete a program and attend to other duties.
- Regularly lifts under 25 lbs., occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs.
Incumbents in this position constantly performs work in office environment and classroom environment.
SAFETY RISK EXPOSUREIncumbents in this position are generally not exposed to safety risk. On rare occasions, may become exposed to verbal abuse by customers or citizens.
PROTECTIVE GEAR & SAFETY MANUALSIncumbents in this position are required to follow written safety procedures constantly and manuals relevant to the division or department.
CONSEQUENCES OF ERRORPotential errors can result in unfavorable public perceptions and legal ramifications.
