The purpose of this position is to promote the health and wellbeing of inmates and to provide appropriate medical care. The position supervises and manages the department, provides patient care and responds to emergencies, and provides health and wellness education to inmates and staff. It also delivers staff training, acts as a liaison between medical and detention staff, and maintains the supplies inventory.

The role includes regularly assigning work to other employees and supervising related activities. It involves making final decisions on scheduling work hours, evaluating employee performance, handling employee grievances, training employees, and granting time off.

The Supervisor also provides recommendations on employee promotions, salary increases, disciplinary actions, and employee coaching. The position manages medical department staff (nursing and medical) and delivers direct patient care for routine medical concerns, prescribing medications, and performing medical procedures.

Responsibilities include reviewing inmates’ medical histories and prescriptions, responding to medical emergencies, providing lifesaving skills to injured/sick patients, promoting inmate health and wellness, and educating inmates and staff about medical concerns.

Other duties: provide training on basic first aid and CPR for medical, nursing, and detention staff; act as liaison between medical staff and detention officers; maintain inventory of supplies and medications; perform other duties as assigned.
