Purpose And Summary

Our District Support Pharmacists (DSPs) play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence within each pharmacy worked by acting as a role model for all, demonstrating genuine care, and setting the bar for the pharmacy team. As a DSP, you will cover pharmacist scheduling gaps under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager and Rx District Leader, supporting pharmacy teams across the district.

You will be accountable for managing, overseeing, and operating the pharmacy and pharmacy team in the stores you work.

Responsibilities
  • Live our purpose by helping to manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
  • Travel the district to fill pharmacist shifts as scheduled by the District Performance Coordinator; oversee the pharmacy and serve as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts without overlap.
  • Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following pharmacy workflow procedures and directing the pharmacy team to do the same.
  • Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and coaching the pharmacy team to do the same.
  • Proactively offer and deliver immunizations to keep patients healthy; support Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
  • Support effective management of pharmacy inventory, guiding the team on best practices and protecting cold‑chain products.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.
  • Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills through required trainings, CMEs, and continuous learning.
  • Support access to care and improve patient outcomes via pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as testing and prescribing services where permissible.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with CVS Health policies and controlled substance dispensing and record‑keeping requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Essential Functions
  • Travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing as business needs require.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Complete required training within the designated timeframe.

    • Concentrate on a task over a period of time.
    • Pivot quickly from one task to another to meet patient and business needs.
    • Confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.

    • Use and understand verbal and written communication to interact with patients and colleagues.
    • Utilize active listening and give full attention to what others are saying.

    • Use math to solve problems such as determining the total number of tablets to dispense, day’s supply, and number of full bottles needed.

    • Identify challenging patient or colleague interactions and choose the best course of action when faced with multiple options.

    • Be mobile and remain upright for extended periods; lift, scan, and bag items.
    • Reach overhead, stretch, or grasp items.
